In the words of Winston Churchill, “attitude is a little thing that makes a difference”
This little thing called attitude is a tendency or predisposition to life, people, ideas or objects. It is a posture, positive or negative that you take towards life. All of us have at some point decried someone’s condescending, disdainful or inflexible attitude. Some people will rave about another person’s optimistic, encouraging or enthusiastic attitude.
Whatever attitude you adopt has consequences big or small, intended or unintended. Your life is not coincidental, you make it what you want through your attitude. Zig Ziglar was spot on when he said that “your attitude, not your aptitude will determine your altitude.
Your life will rise or fall based on the attitude you adopt. Have you considered what is your attitude to various areas of your life?
# 1. If your attitude is that I am a victim of my circumstances, then your attitude to life is that of a loser. If you ask to be a loser, the universe will reciprocate and it shall be given to you. Equally so, when you acknowledge your circumstances and adopt the attitude of a victor, your approach to your goals will change and you will go after your dreams with vigour.
#2. If you are given a task, how well you do it depends on the attitude you choose. If your work is just about collecting a paycheck, then your predisposition will be to do the bare minimum. You know the attitude you come across where people provide a service as if they are doing you a favour. The opposite is true, if your attitude is that of service and you are in the right environment, you will be rewarded greatly for it. Even if your environment sucks, someone will recognise you and you will be snatched out of that space. However, imagine the fulfilment in your heart, it is more than the riches of this world.
#3. Our relationships flourish or diminish based on what we see in others. If your attitude is that of a taker and you interact with others as if they owe you, that relationship will be over sooner than you imagined. The attitude of giving and being grateful moves you closer to something bigger in your life.
#4. If your attitude is that money follows money, then you will remain poor forever. I am certain that not every wealthy person started wealthy. If your attitude is that I am open and keen to learn how to earn, keep and grow money then your relationship with money will change for the better.
It was Viktor E. Frankl who said that “everything can be taken from a man but one thing; the last of human freedoms to choose one’s attitude in any given set of circumstances, to choose one’s own way”.
What is your attitude to your life henceforth?
- Are you going to be a builder or a demolisher of your future?
- Are you going to make a difference when given an opportunity to serve or are you going to leave the place worse than you found it?
- Are you going to nourish or suffocate others in your relationships?
- Are you going to respect or disrespect money?
Your attitude to these and many areas of your life will determine the quality of your life.
