The words of Erika Oppenheimer ring true to everything in life. She correctly points out that “without a solid foundation, you’ll have trouble creating anything of value”. This is true whether you are starting a career, building a business or trying to achieve financial freedom and many other endeavours in life.
The challenge with most people is that they want to start the journey without thorough preparation and setting a solid foundation for what they’re embarking upon. They get lost in the excitement of what the potential results could be. They become oblivious to the inevitable traps of temptation, obstacles and hardships along the way. Then they get surprised when things crumble before they even start.
A strong foundation is about developing an unshakable identify, carving a solid value system, compelling vision and enduring relationships that will help you to weather the storms of life.
When your character is put to the test or when challenges arise, you should be able to resort to your “go to” skills and deal with what is facing you.
Without this arsenal, you are doomed to be usurped by the storms of life. You will go for money at all costs not caring if you leave corpses behind. You will put your interests ahead of people you are supposed to serve. You will sell your soul to the highest bidder. You will give up on your goals at the first appearance of what looks like a bend on the road.
Before you decide to launch your dreams, goals and aspirations, look deep inside yourself and lay the load bearing foundation that will stand the test of time.
