How badly do you want to attain your wildest dreams and fulfil your purpose in life?
Most people I speak to say, very bad!
My follow up question usually is, what are you prepared to trade-off to have the future you so badly desire?
Cindy, seating across the table looked at me and sighed, “Tex, I will do anything to leave my employer in order to own an HR consultancy”. I asked, anything? Which of your most priced material possessions are you willing to trade-off for this dream?
Cindy’s priced possession was her German sedan and she reclined in the chair and said, “no ways, not my machine”.
From my experience there are many like Cindy who want the benefit of a fulfilling life, but they are trapped in the comfort of what they know or how they want to be seen even if it doesn’t work.
Unfortunately, we must make trade-offs in life in order to attain our wildest dreams.
In the words of H.L Hunt, “Decide what you want. Decide what you are willing to exchange for it. Establish your priorities and go to work”
People who are serious about their wildest dreams are not confused about what is minor and what is major in their lives. Unfortunately, most of us take minor issues and make them major.
Allow me to share a few tips that will help you move in the direction of your dreams. Often, we live at the mercy and approval of others. We are motivated by how we want to look to the world while putting our dreams on the back banner.
# Define the new self:
Ask yourself, who should I become to reach my goals? Going after major things in your life calls for new mindset, character and value system. The reality is that you cannot be tossed back and forth by indecisiveness. Resolve the inner war and define who you are and dump the imposter you have created of yourself.
# Discard futility of the unworkable past:
Ever heard how people who want to cling to the past go to lengths trying to rationalise and blame even an unborn child for their shabby lives? Not one Scott Steindorff. Scot became an alcoholic after being introduced to a glass of martini by his father at the age of 5. Alcohol abuse went on to affect many areas of his life. He started bullying everyone that came his way. It was not until he “started to connect with the power within myself” that Scott awakened the creative genius that laid dormant inside. He decided that his past will not hold back his future. He went on to become an executive producer of movies and TV shows.
You have Scott Steindorff inside you, and you can beat the odds to achieve major things in your life.
# Apply TEF in your life
You have what it takes to invest time, energy and focus (TEF) to go after the fulfilling life you deserve. A friend once said to me, I realised that I am using the same amount of time, energy and focus (TEF) pursuing a business deal worth R100k vs the one worth R1m. Wow, I reflected on that and noted that there might be some practical considerations, however in the bigger scheme of things, we short change ourselves because of fear.
Unleash the beast in you and win big.
Don’t let these principles become meaningless and just another read. Take massive action today.
