I once had a candidate who missed the interview because he was getting lost. He had coordinates to the venue, however for some reason, his navigation system was not helping. He needed to recalibrate it or call the interview coordinator so that he could get the right direction to the venue. He did not do that until time passed and we continued with other candidates.
This simple story which many of you might have experienced reflects the lives of many people at different levels. They go senseless and directionless through life and they never give themselves permission to hit the reset button. As Being Caballero stated, “man, just like a compass needle, will wobble before finding his true north.
Many people go through life in a pedestrian fashion, following what everyone else is doing. Such people operate permanently on the doing mode without a clue about why they do what they do.
This is called the DOMINANT LOGIC, which simply means following a common way of thinking, an established way just like everyone else. It is not uncommon to hear people saying, I am doing it because everyone else is doing it. People who hold this view even induce guilt in others because misery always looks for company.
When this happens, take a moment to pause and reflect on the words of Mark Twain when he said that “whenever you find yourself on the side of the majority, it is time to pause and reflect”. This will provide an opportunity to stop wobbling and discover your WHY. Digging deeper for your WHY will help you understand who you are and what you stand for. In this way, you will define your values and develop a solid personal brand that will shield you from being tossed like a wind. You will separate yourself from the dominant logic and discover your deeper purpose.
I believe that I and you owe it to the world to educate people to discover their WHY, their purpose for living. Our WHY’s will save us from ourselves and help us to live for something bigger than ourselves.
We have just completed our Find Your True North Workshop, we look forward to you joining us in 2018. A schedule will be announced soon. You can’t afford to miss the next workshop to Find Your True North.
